Tigers Begin Offseason Coaching Overhaul with Two Departures
First-base coach Anthony Sanders and assistant pitching coach Juan Nieves will not return to the Tigers next season, sources told MLB.com. Sanders, 52, spent only one season on the Tigers' staff after a six-year tenure as first base coach with the Baltimore Orioles. Nieves joined the Tigers' organization as the pitching coach at Triple-A Toledo in 2019 and was promoted to the major-league staff two years later. He previously served as pitching coach for the Boston Red Sox from 2013 to 2015, including their 2013 World Series championship season, and the Miami Marlins from 2016 to 2018. Nieves has been working alongside pitching coach Chris Fetter since A.J. Hinch's first season as Tigers manager in 2021.
