River Ryan Makes Long-Awaited Tigers Debut vs. Nationals
Right-hander River Ryan, one of the players acquired from the Dodgers in the Tarik Skubal trade, will make his Tigers debut Monday (Sept. 21) against the Washington Nationals. Working back from a hamstring strain, Ryan has made two rehab starts with Triple-A Toledo and hasn't thrown more than 39 pitches in either outing, so this will be a shorter start. He's only expected to work a few innings in the game and will be piggybacked by Keider Montero. Ryan has a Major League arsenal, from an upper-90s fastball with high spin to a tight low-90s slider, buckling curveball and developing changeup. "He's very talented," manager AJ Hinch said.
