Valdez Returns to Face Mets as Tigers Seek Stability
The Tigers' $115 million lefty will return to the rotation against the Mets Wednesday night after serving a five-game suspension for intentionally beaning Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story in his last start. Valdez makes the start for the Tigers, his ninth of the season, with a 2-2 record, 4.57 ERA and 35 strikeouts through 43 1/3 innings pitched. Valdez struggled in his last start against the Red Sox on May 5, giving up seven earned runs in three innings and allowing three home runs. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said he just wants Valdez to "come out of it ready to pitch," noting the focus is on getting back on track against the Mets.
